Definition: Instruments or technological means of communication that reach large numbers of people with a common message: press, radio, television, etc.  IM with general reference to NEWSPAPERS; PERIODICALS; RADIO; TELEVISION; MOTION PICTURES; etc., as mass media; do not use as routine coord with the specific: coord only when specific is discussed as a mass medium, as "magazines as mass media"
